about

Nova Scotia music is steeped in aged, old tradition. Brad's music includes an eclectic mix of influences that highlight links with community and family traditions - no matter where the music takes him.

Brad has Mainland and Cape Breton roots that are as deep and varied as the music he renders. One relation, of eight generations ago, was the legendary chief piper to the MacNeils of the Isle of Barra, Rory MacNeil.

But Brad can trace his music to the French Acadians as well, to Cheticamp, Inverness County, where his grandfather - a fiddler - and the seeds of Brad’s music on the Lefort’s side of the family emerge. Henry Lefort married Irene MacDonald, and when they moved from East Bay, Cape Breton to Antigonish, Mainland Nova Scotia, Henry played many tunes on the fiddle, while Irene accompanied on the piano. It is from that musical spirit and deep family values and tradition that Brad was able to come to know the music he so enjoys and performs today.

In addition to some traditional favorites, Brad presents several of his own compositions on this recording. The CD is a wonderful production and will satisfy the taste of anyone with an interest in Maritime music and tradition.
